Full Festival Description:
|
Singapore is set to play host to this exciting new event on March 13th -16th 2007 that brings together leaders from the worlds of the environment, conservation and wildlife filmmaking, with the participation of top names such as Animal Planet, the BBC, Conservation International, Discovery, National Geographic Channel, NHNZ, NHK, UNEP, WCS and WWF.
Wildlife Asia will be Asia’s premier wildlife and environmental filmmaking event, looking at wildlife filmmaking from the Asian perspective and focusing on the conservation and environmental issues that are most pertinent to the region. With fantastic new species still being discovered in Asia, and with the developing economies of China and India making Asia THE growth region for the television industry, there really couldn’t be a greater need for a world-class event to cater to the growing demand for wildlife and environmental programming in the region.
Wildlife Asia is both a conference and a festival (full details available online at: www.wildlifeasia.org). The four-day event features seminars and that tackle the latest issues in wildlife and environmental filmmaking and communication in Asia and workshops featuring the latest equipment and technological advances that are revolutionizing the broadcasting landscape. We will have a particular focus on networking opportunities – such as Speed Pitching, where you can not only sell your programme ideas but also your talents! Films will be screened throughout the week, culminating in the Lion Film Awards - celebrating the very best in wildlife filmmaking in Asia and throughout the world.
Other than the Lion Awards, the festival will feature a number of other high-profile events – such as a ‘Wild Night at the Zoo’ where we’ll celebrate the career of ‘India’s Attenborough’ Valmik Thapar – and use this event to bring a much-needed focus on tiger conservation. Another key event will be ‘Green is the Colour of Money’ where experts discuss the economic implications of our failure to care for the environment – an issue that is becoming more and more critical in the region.
Quotes in support of Wildlife Asia:
Sir David Attenborough: “Asia is full of wonderful, splendid, beautiful animals - superb subjects for natural history filmmakers... Wildlife Asia, will focus the attention of the world on these splendours, and also show the people of Asia what splendours they have in their hands."
Dr Jane Goodall DBE: " Wildlife Asia is a tremendously important opportunity for Asia [and] has the potential of becoming a very important catalyst for raising awareness of conservation issues throughout Asia.”
Wildlife Asia is now open for delegate registrations and film submissions – via our website: www.wildlifeasia.org.
See you in Singapore – 13th -16th March 2007!
