Full Festival Description:
|
The Brooklyn Film & Arts Festival is calling for films & documentaries about Brooklyn, Brooklyn neighborhoods in which Brooklyn is a key component.
Brooklyn is the subject of our festival's focus and although it might seem to be a narrow focus, Brooklyn is deep, layered, flavorful, complicated and ever changing. Brooklyn has been the well spring for the development of unique charachters and its cultural idioms have made an enduring impression in Hollywood and around the world. Brooklynites include Mae West, Woody Allen, Barbara Streisand, Al Capone, Vince Lombardi, Moe Howard of The Three Stooges, Jackie Gleason, Rita Hayworth, Barbara Stanwyck, Mickey Rooney, Carole King, Lena Horne, Michael Jordan, Jerry Seinfeld, George & Ira Gershwin, Zero Mostel, Vanessa Williams, Ken Burns, Wolfman Jack, Mel Brooks and Eddie Murphy to name a few. There is something about Brooklyn's ineffable charachter that has helped create a unique dynamism in many of its inhabitants over the years.
One of the goals of The Brooklyn Film & Arts Festival is to present programs that will allow Brooklyn residents from different neighborhoods of Brooklyn to learn more about their fellow Brooklyn neighbors. It is hoped that The Brooklyn Film & Arts Festival will help bring greater awareness and understanding between the distant Brooklyn residents and help to develop a level of appreciation of the other Brooklyn communities and individuals that comprise the span of Brooklyn.
